My depression won’t go away, I just want to be happy like everyone else. How can I be happy again?
Depression is tough, it can make you feel sad, tired, irritated, lonely and especially to feel like you can’t get out of the situation you’re in but it is also treatable. There are many options for treating depression but here are the big picture parts of understanding it and beating it. Depression is not always the main problem. Sometimes it’s caused by underlying medical conditions which once identified a treated can resolve the feelings of depression. Not all depression responds to therapy.
In some cases, you may want to consider medication. There are situational causes like loss or grief and there are clinical causes from hormonal or physical and combinations of both, all of these are treatable and things can get better with help.
There are not a lot of quick fixes. Depression can be a long road to feeling better than some but it has a path and with the right steps things can get better. Not every option works and you might have to try a few different things before you find the one that works for you. Getting help works. Everything with depression gets easier when you have help. Asking for help does not make you weak or worthless it makes you stronger and helps you get better.
There may be setbacks occasionally and that is ok because you can always get back on the path and find your way back to where you want to be. Trust your body. You know yourself better than anyone else. Pay attention to the messages your body sends you and share with your care providers. Food and exercise can make a difference.
Eating healthy and getting exercise may seem like an insurmountable task when you are feeling down but every little bit counts and you can build on every step in the right direction. If you fall off track you can always get back on and it will always bring you that much closer to feeling better when you do.
