Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Providing Treatment In: Kentucky

A Little About Me…

Since graduating from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, I’ve been helping people as a therapist since 1998. I did internships at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, and at the Louisville Archdiocese Office of Family Counseling. I was trained in EMDR therapy in 1998, and have been using it since to help folks to resolve their past trauma. I very much enjoy helping clients to regain aspects of their humanity which have been “lost” through trauma. I also love helping couples to deepen and revitalize their relationships. I have been trained in both John Gottman and Susan Johnson (Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples) approaches to helping couples. They are the two top researchers in the field of “couple health,” and so I’m grateful to have had the opportunities to be trained in both approaches. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a Kindergarten Teacher, and prior to that a pre-school teacher. I have also been an instructor in early childhood education; and taught courses in human development. One of the reasons I became a therapist is to help parents to gain insight into the mysteries which are their children. I’m committed to helping parents to find the best approaches to helping their children. I am a big proponent of Jane Nelson’s approach to Positive Discipline.

When You Come to Your Appointment With Me, You Might Experience…

Most folks find me comfortable to relate to. I’m an informal person, and I also take my professionalism seriously. I have an easy and warm sense of humor, but it’s never comes at the expense of my clients. It’s very important to me that I’m able to create a therapeutic process for my client which is both comfortable and one which feels respectful. My clients typically come to realize that I truly care about all my clients and their welfare. I don’t judge my clients, and I’m not a referee nor “judge” for my couples. I am a therapeutic partner with my clients. My approach is collaborative, and supportive.

I’m most comfortable working with…

Individuals, couples, families and children.

My Training and Specialty Work Includes…

Family Therapy. Systems Orientation, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Therapy and other Ericksonian based approaches. I’m trained in working with couples using both John Gottman methods and the Susan Johnson methods (Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples). As former kindergarten teacher, I love helping children through play therapy. Our play therapy room is a “kid’s paradise.” It rocks!

In my free time you might find me…

Enjoying my family, Watching old movies. Practicing guitar or viola. You might find me exercising (but you won’t find me smiling while I’m doing that).
